A new cat has joined the Clan: Mardizen. Can we trust her? Shadowdance has been attacked by a fox! He is not expected to survive the night. Mardizen has apparently sacrificed Shadowdance's life for the life of her own son, Moonshifter... Sootkit tells Sparrowstar about the message from StarClan. Moonshifter is out 'hunting'... and Stonepaw is his unfortunate prey. The vampire appears at the Gathering shortly afterwards, revealing himself to also be a lycan as he recruits followers. Moonshifter and his followers set up 'camp' at the heart of Ember Swamp.
StarClan's warning:
There is a great trouble coming to your Clan. Outsiders must not be trusted until the problem is resolved. Someone is dying and we cannot stop it, for he will be the cause of the problem...
Warning from the First Gathering:
The wind finally left them, but not before saying a few last words in each cats' ear: 'Children, prepare yourselves. Grow stronger. Fight harder. Danger will soon be at your --' The voice was interrupted a mere moment, by another, fainter, more masculine voice. 'Moonstar! Hurry! We're out of time...!' 'Be safe.' With those last two words, the voice disappeared.
Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled. It was answered by other wolves, a hungry, marauding pack. The Starstone's light disappeared. The clearing was bathed in a strange, alien amber light... The moon was red.
And then clouds eclipsed the blood moon rising.
They had been warned.
